Salmon Fur

by Nicole - age 12

The fur of a salmon is sleek as ice

reflecting the sun of a warm summer day

soaking up water like a sponge

making the reflection a beautiful ray.

The water trickles over the fur

cooling it down like a coat of snow

making it through the warm day

giving the fish a harmonious glow.

Swimming up the river bed

the fur showing like a cloak

feeling the fur soak up some sun

getting the moss from a colossal oak.

Thousands of furs in the creek

waiting for the place to lay

watching close for the bears

all the eggs being laid on a beautiful day.

bull salmon belligerent and mean

waiting for another to come

pacing around the river bed

the scary bulls aren't dumb.

Fighting with the rival bulls

watching for the scary quadrupeds

swimming up the salmon run

then ending in a river's bed.

Samon Fur

by Wyatt - Grade 3

I saw something weird today

it was quite a site

it was a trail of samon fur

sounds silly but its right.

I know you think I'm crazy

and that it's April

oh yes did I mention

I found by the old maple.

It led me around in circles

then led me down west

I knew this trail would never end

who is this furry pest.

I new I had to find him

but I did not know where

I finally saw the end of the trail

It was a big bad bear.
