Inupiaq Story

by Kelly - 3rd grade

They had no light or TV

no fridge, computer, and no range

they used radio to listen

then things began to change.

We used campfire for cooking

we used lanterns for light

we used dogs for mushing

and we sleep at night.

We collect drift wood

and went out trapping

the wood was dried out good

the dogs were yapping.

They get ice and melt it

then they saw an otter

they use dog teams for travel to visit friends

it is really clean water.

Seal Hunting

by Esau - 4th grade

I went hunting for seals

when the water is calm

there was blood on my palm.

Finally a seal's head popped up

my dad aimed and fired

but it was a seal pup

that was very tired.

Dad shot a seal

put it in a boat with a hook

my dad has a lot of skill

to put the seal in with one shook.

Mom likes seal cutting

she washes the skin

but hates the gutting

then we put the meat in a tin.

She dries the skin

she sews slippers

when she starts stretching the skin it turns thin

but she saves the flippers.

The flippers are stored

underground for weeks

the flippers are hoarded

by all the geeks.

Seal hunting is fun

so in the spring

out in the hot sun

hunting is my thing.

Your welcome to come

bring your own gear

and feed chum

without any fear.

Picking Berries

by Nellie - 5th grade

I was picking berries

by the fence line

I was attacked by fairies

I slipped on some lime.

I was drenched with lime

so I ran home

I tried to rinse the lime off

but I was too busy to roam.

When I was roaming

I saw some cherries

so I look for a bow

and I get some berries.

So I go back to picking berries

I saw some animals

they were coming

one of the animals had a mole.

There was a hole

so I get my dog

the animals ran away

the dog fell on a log.

I check if my dog broke a bone

my dog got up

I just start picking berries

I thought to myself what a crazy pup.

While I was picking berries I cam across some raspberries

there were a whole bunch of them

I saw some one going towards them

so I said to myself, hmmmm.

I picked most of the raspberries

so I went to my mother

she said "wow you picked so much raspberries."

I went to my aunts house and show the others.

They were so happy

that we had a party

I invite my friends and the teachers

a boy went to my party uninvited his name was Marty.

I smashed the raspberries

to make jam

everyone loved the jam

the person that mostly like my jam was by best friend Pam.

Pam and I was sliding

Pam was so funny that she slide on a little foam

we got cold

so we went home.

Old Stories

by Miranda - 7th grade

Story's are a timeless tale

that always make you look back to the past.

If you don't know where you come from

then you won't know where your going at last.

If you loose yourself in the swarm, you could be lost forever.

so listen to the wise stories of our elders.

The Way It Used To Be

by Frieda - 10th grade

No one was lazy

people were dog mushing

they always walked

but now everyone is rushing.

What did it used to be like?

when men hunted with a harpoon

for seals and walrus

at the lagoon.

Now we all are

staying inside

watching TV

instead of going for a boat ride.

The men are now

killing everything in sight

with their guns

and the birds are all in flight.

Things were easier back then

like an old story

everything seemed so calm

and everyone enjoyed the glory.

Honeybucketsville

by victoria - 12 grade

Welcome to my wonderful home,

doesn't give you much space to roam,

but you'll love the people,

although they're all shorter than a simple steeple,

but I have something else to tell you,

Please don't say "Eww!"

My village is known for its smell.

I wonder if you were able to tell,

We poop, tinkle, and throw tissue in a bucket,

not as cool as musket,

but we don't mind,

that's how we take care of our behind,

don't ever ask us for a loan

for we can't even afford flushing toilets in our home.

please enjoy your stay

is visit around, please do, roam

Welcome to Honeybucketsville, my wonderful home.
