The Animals
by Cobi - 1st Grade
I know a horse that liked to buck,
He hit a pig.
And killed a duck,
And that was the end of his jig.

Horses
by
Samantha - 2nd Grade
Horses are powerful when they run.
So smooth and fast.
Horses are fun to ride in the sun.
I always have a blast.
*******
Bees
by Bryce - 3rd Grade
The horses are in their stalls
The bees are looking for something
The horses think they're in a mall
The bees are looking for fleas
The horses call for their owners
The fleas are looking for bees.

Lambs
by Bridgette - 4th Grade
Lambs are soft
They are cute
Hay is in the loft
They have a soft suit
Lambs eat oats
A lamb is white
They have warm coats
They are a pretty site
Lambs are little
Lambs are small
They don't know one riddle
They don't play with a ball
Lambs love to nestle
They like to play
But not to wrestle
Right in the hay
Lambs drink milk
They are quick
They're as soft as silk
Their fur is thick

Dogs
by Jake Robert - 5th Grade
A dog is a best man's friend
He also is a best boy's tool
And he can put you in a bend
Sometimes he can make you look like a fool
Dogs like to chase sheep
He also likes to chase cows
Dogs don't like to step in a heap
But they sure do like to sit on wagon bows

The
Showdown
by
Dakota - 6th Grade
We draw our guns to fire
He thinks he's got me beat
So I prove to him that I'm no liar
And start shooting at his feet
He jumps for his shotgun holstered in his saddle
So I jump for mine
He shoots at me and that began our fierce battle
When it's over I'll be fine.

Horses' Spot
by Randi - 7th Grade
If you both look across a field
Way beyond the farm
You’ll see a spot that will yield
A picture soft and warm.
Two figures of a lovely brown
On big, and one small
Just eating and standing around
In a season near the fall.
A baby and its mother
Alone in that spot
Caring for each other
And no worries in their thoughts.
One bridled, one not
One older, one younger
Staying in that pretty spot
Fulfilling their hunger.
So if you go across that field
And walk past the barn
Those horses will yield
Their spot with a "darn"!

by Justin - 8th Grade
I looked at that horse
He didn't even stare
I had to ride that course
No backin' out because I'm scared
I knew what was gonna happen
I had chills on my back
Everyone was clappin'
My wife almost had a heart attack
I got down on him easy
He didn't even budge
I felt a little queasy
I made a little grudge
They pulled the gate hard
He took off like a blast
I thought he was slow as lard
But he was mean and fast
He was a really good bucker
I didn't even know
I knew right away I was a sucker
When I felt that hard blow
He knocked me right out
I fell to the ground
My friend had a doubt
But I got up off that mound
My wife came running over
It really gave her a scare
I knew she thought it was over
But really I lost just a little hair
I knew I would have another chance
To ride that mean ol' guy
So I took a long glance
And for right now I'll just go cry.

The Invisible
Horse
by Billy - 8th Grade
Let me tell you a story
Of an invisible horse
And a man who gained glory
For catching it, of course.
It happened one night
While he was out on the range
When the man saw a sight
That looked kind of strange.
There were tracks being made
In the wet muddy ground
But the man said
There was nothing around.
He soon discovered
They were made by a horse
But the has no animal
Cause it was invisible, of course.
He went into town
To tell of his story
But no one believed him
They said it sounded too corny.
He decided he'd show them
He'd bring back the horse
He'd put it in a pen
By using brut force.
He set out one night
And lassoed the horse
And saddled it up
To ride back to town, of course.
The people all yelled
And shouted hooray
When he rode on the horse
The very next day.
It looked like he was suspended
On a saddle in midair
No one could see
That invisible mare.
And that is the end
Of this cowboy's story
Of how he caught the invisible horse
And gained all that glory.

Horses
by Chris - 9th Grade
I once had a bunch of horses
They were big
They were nice horses
They hung out with the pig
I've got a Mustang
It's got 300 horses in it
When you crash it makes a big bang
It can get up in a git

The Old Man
by Devin - 11th Grade
I was sitting with an old man
One day around the campfire
Telling me about the days he was a cowhand
And there was no such thing as barbed wire
So I sat there listening
About the cowboy days
His face was almost glistening
As he told of the cowboy ways
They led a romantic sort of life
Just following the breeze
The cowboy knew the secret to life
For he held all the keys
The cowboy tamed the West
For us to follow along
They made this country the very best
So wild, free and strong
Riding his trusty steed
Off into the sunset
Always doing a good deed
Is the cowboy way I bet
But the cowboy has evolved
His is more modern now
All his problems he has solved
For they now use tractors to plow
As I look through the smoke,
I realized I am by myself
Why did the old man go, I choke
He has gone to sit on God's shelf
For he disappeared as fast
As the cowboys of old
I took a peek at the past
As a life a cowboy told.

Stephanie - 12th Grade
I used to like riding my horse.
Now, I wish I were anywhere but here.
Sitting in this saddle gets somewhat coarse.
Even if I were driving a steer.
The noose around my neck is tight.
I pray to God that my horse won't move.
I am here because of a stupid bar fight.
Oh no! I can hear the clanking of the hooves.
The saddle from underneath begins to slide.
My mind fell upon my wife and two kids.
My son looks like me, wearing my old cowhide.
He waved his tiny hand and closed his eye lids.
One small tear fell upon the dry, cracked ground.
It seemed to make a heart pounding sound.
In it I heard the bark of my trusty hound.
I chuckled at his funny bound.
The rope pulled tight around my neck.
I tried to wriggle my hands free from my back.
I wanted to get home, back onto my deck.
The ropes that bound me had no slack.
My horse reared up, scared from a rattle snake.
It galloped away, my feet hanging inches off the ground.
Then to my surprise, the branch began to break.
I fell upon the ground huddled up into a small mound.
The ropes around my hands suddenly turned loose.
I sat there until I realized I was all alone.
I reached up and took off the noose.
I got on my horse and rode into the sunset straight home.
