High Lonesome

by Elijah - 6th grade

It is very lonesome in this deserted place

I am blinded by the tears rollin' down my face

the wind is blowing at a wild pace

there's no one here.

I look around to see who'd be

lookin' somewhere on this peak for me

I only wish for someone to see

there's no one here.

I can't see anything from this peak

all this fog makes everything so meek

this loss of food has made me weak

there's no one here.

My horse has died a week ago

now I pace to and fro

all I want to do is go

there's no one here.

My shelter is a tree that snapped

I just woke from a big long nap

I pray every night for a map

there's no one here.

Silly Sheep Chaser

by Balie - 7th grade

As the sheep run away

through the straw and the hay

comes the sheep herder to save the day

trying so hard to catch them, but there was no way.

Over the hill and through the yard

running across Western Boulevard

comes the running sheep herder with a very strong guard

he stops and asks himself "why does this have to be so hard?"

He finally catches up to the sheep

trying not to make a peep

up the hill he continues to creep

but that hill was way too steep.

At the bottom of the hill he sits with sorrow

wishing he had medicine to borrow

still sitting with the same sorrow

he thinks "I'll just get the sheep tomorrow."

The Weepin' Willow

by Lauren - 7th grade

It was the place

where I spent most of my time

from dawn to sunset

or after school 'til nine.

I loved to watch the sagging branches

sway in the warm summer breeze

sometime when you held one of the leaves

they would tickle your nose, makin' you sneeze.

It was very peaceful in the morning

the music of the songbirds whispered in my ear

its truly magical place

even my dog loves to be here.

The only sound is peaceful song

the one spot where my head can clear

the old weepin' willow is my sanctuary

the only place I have no fear.
