The Eagle

By: Jolene and Asa

(5th Grade)

I was riding along

Then I saw an eagle hunting for food

I then turned at a corner and said so long

I thought about the eagle and just felt good.

I saw another eagle with a feather floating down

I told my mother to stop

I pulled over I grabbed it and it was round

My mom said cool sipping her pop.

We arrived at home

I brought the feather in and hung the feather up

While the feather lay there alone

I stared at it sipping from my cup.

My mother walked in and looked at it as well

I told her the eagle feather is very sacred

She said that is right, very swell

She said when your done would you like to go swimming at lake red.

We arrived at lake red

Just then another eagle flew by

On the ground we laid out our bed spread

I knew he was here to spy.

When I was swimming in the lake

A person tried to drown me

I survived and came up with an eagle feather in my hand

I said thank you for leaving me be.

I arrived at home

I ran into my room and my feather was gone

I looked out my window it was floating all alone

I said so long.

Buffalo Tracks

By: Lara, Jenny, and Sierra

(5th grade)

I was walking on a road

Looked on the ground saw buffalo tracks

Then I looked up ahead

And I saw wolf packs.

So then I kept on walking

Then up ahead I saw a meadow

Then I looked up further

And saw more buffalo.

Then I kept on walking

Then I saw a shadow appear

Then I looked up ahead

And then I saw something near.

So then I kept on walking

Acting like nothing was there

Then I turned around

And saw a great big bear.

Then I got scared

Then looked up to the sky

Then I saw an eagle

Watching it fly high.

So then I kept on walking

Then saw the buffalo herd

Then I looked back into the sky

And saw the same soaring bird.

Then before my eyes

I saw something white

Then it was a scared buffalo

It was also in great sight.

Then I looked up in the sky

Saw an eagle land on its back

Then I looked beside

At the same wolf pack.

No fare-well words were spoken

No time to say good-bye

They were gone before I knew it

And only God knows why.

The High Life
by 7 & 8 graders

I've gone many miles
through the back roads of my mind
I've seen good and bad
but now that's all behind
I'm drifting through my memory
to the places where I've been
thinking to my future
and where I will go again.

Embracing my mistakes
seeing what I've learned
how far I have gotten
and everything I've earned
now I'm getting older
and I'm thinking up ahead
I won't go back to where I was
I'll move along instead.

chorus

I'm living the high life
good places in my mind
I won't go back I'm telling you
this place is hard to find
I like the way I'm feeling
I've left the past behind
I'm living the high life
why was I so blind.

I've taken the high road
instead of the low
there's no place I can turn around
so forward I shall go
I think about my future
in a positive way
I'll just keep moving forward
and hope I don't stray.

The Wind

By: Olivia

(8th grade)

Gently whispers through the trees

moves around with ease

tends to stir the leaves

as heavy as a twister or as gentle as a breeze.

can be heard

but not seen

can help a bird

or be mean.

controls temperature

can make it cold or hot

ruffles with your fur

but can never be caught.

Turns a windmill

spooks the cattle

flys a kit up a hill

makes the shop door rattle.

Shuts a door

dirties the floor

tangles your hair

can be anywhere.

Brings things to you

and takes them away

anything tiny

could disappear until another day.

Sings with the coyotes

howls with the wolves

hoots with the owls

if it carries your scent you may get some growls

Spreads a fire

carries smoke

sways barbed wire

could make things choke.

Helps things float

sails boats

helps you tote

takes water through motes.

Sneaks in without a peep

can be sure to disrupt sleep

can wake you up in the morning

or leave without warning

…the wind…
