There once was a cowboy named Billy Joe

well he had a lot of friends and foe

and when it happened Joe new he had

to be tough to die.

The friends and family knew it would happen

they held their crosses in their hands

but the foes just sat there laughin'

Joe new he would be remembered

as soon as the mayor said hang 'em high.

Cactus Pants

by Genie - 6 th grade - Stoney Creek School

One day I sat on a cactus

I started to scream

it hurt so much

I started to dream.

It stung so bad when I sat on that cactus

I told my dad

he said I needed more practice.

So I went to the field

there I sat

I was never so scared

but my dad gave me a pat.

I never wanted to sit there

so I told my dad I was too sad

he didn't care

so I became very mad.

I went to bed that night

when I woke

I went to the bathroom

and took a nice hot soak.

When I looked at that cactus

on the side of the road

my dad said go

and suddenly saw  toad.

I sat on the cactus

my pants got stuck

it was hard to get up

suddenly felt struck.

I sat there

my pans started to rip

I hated that spot

so I gave it a tip.

My dad started to laugh

there are bugs everywhere I think they are ants

I started to cry

suddenly it became cactus pants.

Canyon Wind

by Chris - 8th grade - Garden Valley School

In the canyon

living without sin

my ancestors sing

in the canyon wind.

Either singing fast

or singing slow

they always sing together

in a steady flow.

I will sing now

with all of my kin

joining them in the fun

in the canyon wind.

As we sing

people think we cry

for reasons no one knows

they don't know why.

but one day they will see

and be without sin

one day they will join us

in the canon wind.
