The Cowboy Life
by k -3 Grade

He puts on his boots and hat

puts on his chaps and spurs

he goes and gets his horses

and brushes off the burrs.

He starts up his old tractor

and he goes to feed the cows

comes back and milks his goat

while the kitty's yelpin' meows.

He shoots some rabbits for dinner

he saddles up his horse

then goes and doctors calves

and gather sheep of course.

Then he goes to town

to sell off his lambs

so he can buy some horseshoes

and pick up his pigs ham.

Then he sells his chicken eggs

and buys a load of hay

he goes back home and falls asleep

it's sure been a long long day.

The Cross eyed calf
by Savvy  - 6th Grade

I stumbled to the barn at 2 am

one eye open one eye not

when I went to see the sight

there was mom and she was hot

snot was flying and she was on the fight

I tried to see if she had calved

she hit the fence and she was mad

she stomped that baby, I thought in halved.

I tired to get a better look

so I climbed the eagle nest

when what to my sleepy eyes did I see?

one eye went east and one went west.

I ran to the house

to get the vet book

I came back to get a better look

the vet book said

to take him to Pays

when we got there

he sits down and lays

the speakerman said

now looky here now

he got up from layin'

buy we don't know how

the auctioneer said hive me a bid

there was one

then two off the head

the cross eyed calf got sold

so I went back to bed.

A Dog Named Buckaroo

by Middle School

Sittin' by the campfire

with the first light of the dawn
drinking old camp coffee

wonderin' where life's gone.

Listening to the coyotes howl

with my dog named buckaroo

tired of the dust and wind

I sure am missing you.

Long days in the saddle

and short night on the ground

sort and brand them cattle

tonight I'm homeward bound.

Roll myself a cigarette

and pour a cup of brew

tonight I'll be headed home

cuz, I sure am missing you.

I been out on the wagon

for a month or maybe two

everyday a different horse

been throwed off by a few

the days are long and lonely

and I'm feeling oh so blue

out here on this sea of sage

and I sure am missing you.

i made it to the ranch house

to draw my monthly pay

I think I made a buck or two

now its time for me to play.

Loaded up my pickup truck

and loaded Buckaroo

I'm rollin' down this dusty road

cuz, i sure am missing you.

On the Outskirts of Town

by the High School

There's an old rundown cabin

a mile off the road

it's the home of my raisin'

and the place where I'll grow old.

A million miles of memories

with in my heart I'll hold

from the sweet smell of sage brush

to the first kiss that I stole.

Chorus

On the outskirts of town

is where I'm from

chasin' wild cattle

till the setting of the sun.

On the outskirts of town

where my horses run

I spend my days here

until my last day is done

on the outskirts of town.

There's a little old homestead

where I lived a simple life

tucked back in the hills

with my lovely kids and wife.

The kids have moved away now

and the stock had dwindled down

now we're livin' our golden years

on the outskirts of town.
