The Bald Eagle
by Logan - 6th Grade
With grace it flies
without a bit of mistake
in the beautiful Montana sky
the rabbit below he will soon overtake.
She goes in to a dive
towards the cattle ranch
the rabbit starts running like it never was alive
it hops a broken branch.
But the Eagle's way to fast
as she speeds as fast as horses
his wings go flat as a broken mast
and the rabbit's changing courses.
With talons like knives
and a deafening screech
the rabbit's lifted to the skies
and is finished off over the beech.
She is proud of her catch
as it dangles like a doll
it was a fair match
but she's not done at all.
She goes back to her nest
to feed the hungry Eagles
she still isn't able to rest
they're as jumpy as a three week beagle.
It's a beautiful sight
in the Western Sky
though extinct it might
with grace it flies.

Porcupine
Reese - 7th Grade
A cowboy's job is tough you see
believe me, I tell you listen to me
I live out on the open range
eaten critters, some are strange.
Once my horse just ran away
and left me stranded for twelve days
by the twelfth day I was out of food
my stomach ached, I was in a foul mood.
I looked down low, I looked up high
until I spied me a porcupine.
Now how to get him out of that tree
my, oh my, what a mystery!
I looked up and he looked down
he saw my face I saw him frown
his eyes rolled back in to his head
it came to me the porcupine is dead.
He must of had a heart attack
he fell out of the tree right on his back
his quills were stuck down in the dirt
at least he didn't land on me, boy that would hurt.
I built a fire around the beast
this was going to be the greatest feast
now my stomach felt real fine
thanks to that poor porcupine.
The only problem left you seeth
I had some meath stuck in my teeth
by that time my horse was back
I hopped right up and gave him a smack.
Leave me again you'll be my next meal
I picked my teeth with a porcupine quill.

A Poor Lost Puppy
by Chelsea
This picture makes me sad
It makes me feel so very bad
A poor lost puppy alone and cold
With so many stories gone untold
At one time I'll bet this pup had a home
With a lovin' family to call his own
He looks no more than 7 weeks
Sittin' there with his cute puppy cheeks
He looks so sweet with his big brown eyes
And I'll bet in the dead of the night he wakes up and cries
As the tears drip down his face
He thinks why me, in this awful place
Down by the railroad tracks is where this pup lives
He never steals, just gives and gives
He misses his family so very much
Even though they never gave him anything more than a touch
Maybe I should bring him home with me
That ought to make him a little happy
As I go to pick him up
I realize how skinny he really is, this poor lost pup
You can see lots of protruding bones
On this pup everything shows.

Rattlesnakes and Horny Toads
Zack
Rattlesnakes and horny toads
on the desert dry
roaming down some lonesome roads
where the turkey buzzards fly
Not a clue which way to go
been thirstin' day and night
Lord if they can't find their way
you know they'll lose the fight.
Rattlesnakes and horny toads
wondering amongst the dirt and bones
rattlesnakes and horny toads
wondering all alone.
Miles of sand headed their way
a big dust storm blew in today
tumbleweeds are on my heels
I know just how a lizard feels.
Sandstorms blow, dust devil's fly
never know what you can find
walkin' on the desert dry
I think I'm gonna lose my mind.
CHORUS
Rattlesnakes and horny toads
travelin' amongst the dirt and bones
rattlesnakes and horny toads
travelin' all alone.
Travelin' all alone.
