My Grandpa

by Anthony - 6th grade

My grandpa served in the army

and he love his life

he gets ready to go fight

when he sits and sharpens his knife.

He would go fight for his country so he can live a free life

he had a wife and two kids and he was a good man

and lived for his country

and gave a helping hand.

He helped win the freedom and brave

and left his wife awhile ago

we loved him very dearly

he glows in the sky like a pro.

And now he's living his life in the sky

at his home in the sky

and one day I'll meet up with him again

resting way up high.

My Grandpa

by Sierra - 6th grade

The man who we call Ron was born way down in Kansas

he was the one that did the back breaking work that had to be done

he was an All Around Cowboy from swinging a rope to riding them broncs.

to some this may be hard work, but for him it was fun.

He moved to Powell and found his sweetheart

they got married and moved away.

In 1973 they moved to Montana

they have raised their family, and are there still to this day.

He still ropes like a pro

and rides like an Old Cowboy of the West.

he lives outside of Great Falls

and to me is the very best.

He gallops around the lakes

and never means no harm

he feeds all his horses

but has never worked on a farm.

No he's not retired

he still hunts and he still fishes

his wife always cooks his dinners

and always washes the dishes.

You see he is one of the lucky ones

cause this is really what a cowboy is

he does all of the things that got to be done

so this nice life is truly his.

Not Just a Soldier

by Victoria - 7th grade

Over in Japan

in a foreign land

there once was a man

lending a helping hand.

He was running through the fields

and sprinting through the trees.

He may have been in rivers

flowing up to his knees.

He always would hold is flag high

and let it flow in the breeze.

Every day and night

even if it would freeze.

But on one tragic day

in the mist of a battle

there came a shot

that made all air rattle.

And one more soldier fell

to the solid ground

terrified that this

may be his soden mound.

Hit in the hip

but still a breath he held

going through that pain

I know I would have yelled.

But he pressed his mouth shut

and endured all the pain

knowing now he would now

definitely use a cane.

As all of the nurses

came out to see

all of the damage

different soldiers had left to be.

They found this soldier

bloody, yet proud, and mean

so they carry him out on a stretcher

senses alert and keen.

But one man

that didn't see

that Japanese sniper

hiding in that tree.

The sniper shot

and hit him dead on

in the ankle

long before the next dawn.

And the nurse fell

to ground with a sad moan

and laid there in weakness

with only a groan.

But afterwards

both men were healed

and hoping that their gun

they may be able to wield.

This man that got hit

in the mist of a battle

came back to his home

and got back in his saddle.

This man is my grandfather

and I can be proud.

And say he's not just a soldier

freely and loud.

Family History

by Abbey - 8th grade

Family history, what a wonderful thing

there are so many people who could be a queen or king

I've got quite a family I could tell you about

So I'll start with a story you could not doubt.

Well, my great Uncle Bill was quite a man

he took down many German's with a gun in his hand.

he made his troops go, and never stop

he killed 40 German's ending on top

he may have died, but not in vein.

He got a medal, and a good name.

Another relative who was a good man,

helped out the Senate with a good plan

my grandpa Jack did many good deeds

we'll never forget him, cause he filled all our needs.

My grandma Louise is a good gal,

she's always there, and is a good pal

she's a good grandma, one of the best

if you ask me, she beats all the rest

she was a well accomplished lawyer indeed

once again, another person who fills our family's needs.

My Uncle Bill is as fantastic as can be

when there's a fire, he's got water ready

he does everything thing he possibly can

and that is why I'm proud to be related to that man.

My Uncle Charlie is quite a character

you ask him to do something and he'll be right there.

He is really funny, and makes everyone laugh

if my grandpa Gary has trouble, he's already there helping the calves.

My Grandpa Gary is a hard working man

he may not have is cattle, but he does what he can

he tries his hardest to put us to the test

when were around him, we all do our best.

My parents, and step parents are all real great

they are all real patient, even when I'm late

that's why I love them all to death

they all work hard, and beat out all the rest.

All my aunt's are a crazy bunch

they like to do fun stuff like shopping, or go to lunch

it doesn't matter what side of the family they are on

they are all really great,

I rate them at the top and everything beyond.

All my other uncles are really cool

they take us anywhere, like to the pool

they work real hard no matter what they do

they are really nice and always tell the truth.

I've got so many relatives that make me so proud

they all stand out in a crowd

so if you ask me, I will say,

My family is great, they are ten!

I hope some day I can be like them.
